Subject: PhD position in theoretical and mathematical physics in Vienna

Dear colleagues,

I would be grateful if you could bring the attached advertisement for a PhD
position in theoretical and mathematical physics at the University of Vienna to
the attention of suitable candidates.

Best wishes,

Harold Steinacker

================================================================

Excellent candidates with a strong background in theoretical and mathematical
physics are searched for a fully funded PhD position for 3 years in the group of
mathematical physics at the University of Vienna, within the FWF project

"Quantum Spacetime and Gravity in Matrix Models at one Loop"

directed by Harold Steinacker. The project involves formal aspects of quantized
symplectic geometry as relevant to a specific matrix model related to string
theory,
as well as more physics-related aspects of the gravity theory emerging from that
model, which goes beyond the standard framework of general relativity.

A strong interest in formal high-energy theory in the context of quantum field
theory and gravity is essential. Starting date is flexible, e.g. March 1, 2023
or in fall 2023.

The deadline for initial consideration is January 23rd, 2023, but later
applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Applications including

-a CV (including certificates & grades from bachelor and master studies)
-a brief statement of research interests and
-contact information for two academic referee who can provide a letter of
recommendation

should be sent (preferably in one .pdf file)  by e-mail to
harold.steinacker at univie.ac.at.
