You are cordially invited to the Scientific Computing Laboratory seminar, which will be held on Friday, 17 June 2016 at 12:00 in the library reading room “Dr. Dragan Popović" of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled

Dynamics of a mobile impurity in a one-dimensional Bose gas

will be given by Dr. Zoran Ristivojević (Laboratoire de Physique Theorique, CNRS, Toulouse). Abstract of the talk:

The theoretical study of foreign particles moving through the Bose liquid is an old subject initially considered by Landau and coworkers. The resurgent interest in this topic arises due to various realizations with cold atoms. In this talk we will first study the quasiparticles of a one-dimensional Bose gas and their decay. This will help us to consider the problem of dynamics of a mobile impurity. At zero temperature, the impurity flows through the Bose gas without dissipation as it cannot emit quasiparticles. However, the dissipation occurs at finite temperature due to scattering off thermally excited quasiparticles. We will describe the resulting particle dynamics and calculate the friction force, which shows rich temperature dependence.
