Dear colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the Scientific Computing Laboratory seminar, which will be held on Thursday, 26 May 2016 at 14:00 in the library reading room “Dr. Dragan Popović" of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled

Universal Optical Conductivity of Disordered Weyl Semimetals

will be given by Dr Vladimir Juričić (Nordita, Center for Quantum Materials, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Stockholm University, Sweden). Abstract of the talk:

Weyl semimetals have recently attracted considerable attention as prime examples of topologically nontrivial gapless states of quantum matter. They have been experimentally found in various three-dimensional gapless semiconductors. In this talk, we will first introduce Weyl semimetals and discuss their hallmark features: Fermi arc surface states and magneto-transport response related to the chiral (Adler-Bell-Jackiw) anomaly. We will then discuss disorder-driven quantum phase transition in a Weyl metal within a renormalization group framework and show that optical conductivity can be used as an order parameter across the corresponding phase diagram [1]. In particular, we will address scaling of the optical conductivity at finite frequency in different phases. Moreover, we will show that when weak all eight possible types of the point-like disorder potentials give rise to a correction to the optical conductivity, which is universal up to a sign. Finally, we will discuss some experimental consequences of these findings.
