You are cordially invited to the SCL seminar of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, which will be held on Thursday, 15 June 2017 at 14:00 in the library reading room “Dr. Dragan Popović" of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled

Mode locking in dissipative overdamped Frenkel-Kontorova model driven by external forces

will be given by Dr. Petar Mali (Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad). Abstract of the talk:

Appearance of harmonic and subharmonic Shapiro steps in the overdamped generalized Frenkel-Kontorova model under external forces will be discussed in this talk. Dynamics of the dc+ac driven-dissipative Frenkel-Kontorova model subjected to asymmetric deformable substrate potential will be examined using the largest Lyapunov exponent computational technique. Due to deformation, large fractional and higher-order subharmonic steps appear in the response function of the system and their appearance is connected to Farey sequences. We will show that such a system is non-chaotic in the overdamped limit and compare it with real physical systems, such as charge density waves and stack of Josephson junctions under external radiation.
