Poštovane koleginice i kolege,

Zadovoljstvo mi je da vas pozovem na predavanje saradnika Laboratorije
za fiziku životne sredine PROF.DR.IR. ROELAND SAMSON (Full professor at
the Department of
Bioscience Engineering, Faculty of Sciences, University of Antwerp,
Belgium) koje će se održati 4. DECEMBRA (UTORAK) U 13 H u Sali za
sednice (I sprat) Hemijskog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu, pod
naslovom:

"BIOMONITORING OF PARTICULATE MATTER"

ABSTRACT
Air pollution belongs to the world's largest environmental problems,
causing annually millions of premature deaths worldwide. Recently the
World Health Organisation stated that about 93% of the children - or 1.8
billion - are exposed to air pollution levels which endanger their
health and development.
One of the most dangerous air pollutants is particulate matter (PM).
Simultaneously, it is also one of the most complicated pollutants due to
the large range of involved size fractions and the huge spatial
variation in their chemical composition. Although air quality is in
generally intensively monitored, e.g. in Europe, according to
well-described protocols, the number of monitoring stations and the used
indicators as PM10 do not suffice to get a correct insight on the
spatial distribution and chemical composition of PM.
Biomonitoring of PM offers the opportunity to overcome these problems by
e.g. the ability to largely increase the number of sampling sites.
Moreover, using alternative techniques as environmental magnetism allows
us to get insight into the chemical composition and size fractions (up
to the ultra-fine particles or PM0.1) of the atmospheric particulates.
This lecture discusses the several options, advantages and disadvantages
of biomonitoring of PM.

Dobrodošli!

Mira
