You are cordially invited to the seminar organized by Center of Excellence for Non-Equilibrium Processes (CNP),
which will be held on May 6th, 2026 at 11:00h in the library room "Dr. Dragan Popović" at the Institute of Physics Belgrade.
"INFN-LNS upgrade and future perspectives"
will be given by prof. Santo Gammino, director of the Southern National Laboratories, INFN-LNS, Sicily, Italy.
The guest of prof. Gammino and of CNP at the seminar will be the science attaché at the Embassy of Italy in Belgrade, dr. Luciano Catani.

The abstract of prof. Gammino's talk:
"The upgrade of the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN-LNS) is a long term project that has been funded by the PON-FESR (National Program for Research and Innovation) strategic line for boosting the research infrastructures and by INFN budget during FY2020-26. A series of actions to improve the scientific opportunities for the users have been placed in action, namely a significant improvement of the two accelerators, Tandem and Superconducting Cyclotron, completed with the new setup of the experimental areas and with the installation of the new fragment separator FRAISE and of the MAGNEX spectrometer devoted to exotic species, particularly for heavy ions. The Cyclotron high intensity program, including the determination of the nuclear matrix elements (NME) of double beta decays and the study of EOS for nuclear matter with large neutron content, will be started in 2028. A broad range of Nuclear Physics and Applied Physics research activities have been carried out at INFN-LNS during 50 years of activities, as well as for the Astroparticle Physics multi-messenger program more recently. The recent achievements of the KM3NeT project for high energy neutrino detection have already placed an important footprint in this scientific domain. Highlights of all these activities will be given."
