Subject: International Seminar on Atomic Processes
Dear Colleagues,
It is our pleasure to announce that
International Seminar on Atomic Processes in Intense Laser Fields and
Related Many-Body Phenomena
http://www.wdc-jp.com/isap/index.html
will take place in Japan on 20-23 January, 2005.
The Seminar will deal with the structure and dynamics of atoms and
molecules under the influence of strong laser fields, coherent matter
waves cooled and controled by laser, quantum phenomena of many-body
systems such as BEC, etc. There will also be a poster session.
We welcome you to participate in the Seminar.
Sincerely yours,
Shinichi Watanabe (University of Electro-Communications)
Kaoru Yamanouchi (University of Tokyo)
(Co-Chairs)
Scope:
Ceaseless pursuit of diverse light sources is opening up new frontiers
of Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) science. Atomic and molecular
dynamics is being explored at the femto and near attosecond time
scale. Responses of atoms and molecules under the influence of intense
laser fields have been attracting vigorous attention and interest from
the viewpoint of their control. Laser cooling techniques are enriching
our understanding of coherent matter waves. Manipulation of quantum
mechanical states with atoms and photons has not only led to the
creation and control of unusual quantum states but also it is altering
our notion of information processing. Ever brighter synchrotron light
sources are exposing the details of electronic dynamics. In the backdrop
of this rapidly changing landscape in AMO science, the Seminar brings
together experimental and theoretical scientists working on light source
development, atomic and molecular processes in intense laser fields,
coherent optical phenomena and quantum information, and related
many-body phenomena, etc., to share and exchange new ideas in the
emerging fields, and provides opportunities for future
collaboration. The participation will be limited to about 70 scientists
due to time and space constraints.
The Seminar will begin with a reception on the evening of Thursday,
January 20 and will continue till Sunday afternoon, January 23, for a 2
and 1/2 day program of invited papers and poster sessions. The Seminar
will be held at Shonan Village International Conference Center situated
50 km south of Tokyo. Close to the historical city of Kamakura where the
Shogunate government took office in the 12th century, the site is
reachable in about 1 and 1/2 hours by train and bus from Tokyo, and
offers a suitable atmosphere for scientific discussions.
