Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to the double IPB COLLOQUIUM which will be
held on Thursday, 10 December 2015 at 13:00 in the "Dragan Popović"
library reading room of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The first
talk entitled
POLISH OPTICAL ATOMIC CLOCK
will be given by Jerzy Zachorowski (Photonics Department, Jagiellonian
University, Krakow, Poland), and the second talk entitled
RESEARCH ON NITROGEN VACANCY COLOR CENTERS
will be given by Wojciech Gawlik (Photonics Department, Jagiellonian
University, Krakow, Poland). Joint abstract for both talks:
The talks will present two fields of activity of the Photonic
Departments of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow:
1) The construction of the strontium optical atomic clock.
2) The experiments on Nitrogen Vacancy color centers in diamond.
The time and frequency standards have the best accuracy of all the SI
units. Nevertheless, research on new standards of much higher accuracy
and stability are undertaken. They concentrate mostly on clocks using
optical transitions instead of microwave ones. Nitrogen vacancy (NV)
color centers in diamond play a role of artificial atom, enabling
attractive applications. In our experiments spin polarization of NV
centers is created by optical excitation and monitored by microwave
resonance (ESR technique) in the temperature range from 10 to 300 K. The
talk will present the construction details of the strontium optical
atomic clock built in Poland, recent results on absolute measurement of
the clock transition in bosonic Sr88 and the novel studies of the
coherent dynamics and relaxation processes in NVs with the methods of
microwave spectroscopy.
Best regards,
Diana Bralić Nebrigić
