TITLE:
On the Scope and Fidelity of 1-D Stellar Evolution Models

ABSTRACT:
"My research concerns inadequacies in modern theoretical stellar
evolution, particularly regarding uncertainty in the physical
assumptions adopted in stellar modeling, the ineffectiveness of
treating 1-D convection as an extension of the solar prescription, and
the potential for extension to and integration of multi-dimensional
formalisms in 1-D stellar structure and evolution models.

My work relies heavily on the MESA (Modules for Experiments in Stellar
Astrophysics) and DSEP (Dartmouth Stellar Evolution Program) codes,
and makes additional use of GYRE, HEALPix, and interfaces to 3-D
hydrodynamic codes.

In this seminar, I will discuss a suite of statistical methods,
modeling techniques, and software tools that mitigate the shortcomings
of 1-D stellar evolution codes and broaden the spectrum of problems
they can address."
