Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to the IPB COLLOQUIUM which will be held on Tuesday, 9 July 2019 at 11:00 in the “Zvonko Marić” lecture hall of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled
Hydrodynamic behavior in super-small systems
will be given by Prof. Dr. Denes Molnar (Department of Physics & Astronomy, Purdue University, USA) Abstract of the talk:
Heavy ion collision experiments at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) in the US, and also the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Europe, have been underway to study the properties of a novel substance called the quark-gluon plasma. In this talk we will discuss indications that tiny droplets created in gold-gold and lead-lead collisions, possibly even proton-lead collisions, behave like a fluid that has very small specific shear viscosity. This would make the quark-gluon plasma not only the hottest and most perfect [T = O(10^12) K, eta/s = O(0.1)] fluid ever created in the laboratory, but also the smallest system exhibiting hydrodynamic behavior. A few related open questions will also be discussed.
Best regards,
Antun Balaž
