* Stephen Hawking Fellowships are postdocs with up to 4 years' funding.
The scheme is run by UK funding agencies EPSRC and STFC.
* Applicants interested in applying at the University of Nottingham have
to complete an initial application by Tuesday 4th June to obtain UoN
support. Candidates are asked to send the following information to
fellowships at nottingham.ac.uk
1. The attached short form
2. CV and list of publications
3. Case for support (maximum 4 pages) outlining track record, description
of proposed research and its context, importance and impact and how
public engagement activities may help you maximise the impact of your
proposed research (please note a longer version of this will be
required for the full application)
----------- Further info -------------------
* The scope of the fellowships extends beyond Stephen Hawking’s active
areas of research such as cosmology, general relativity and quantum
gravity and include other aspects of theoretical physics such as
classical gravity, string theory, statistical physics, nuclear
physics, particle physics, particle astrophysics, theoretical astronomy,
solar and planetary physics. Proposals are also welcome from across the
fundamental mathematical and computer sciences where the applicant can
demonstrate that the research will underpin these approaches and can
directly build capability in the area of theoretical physics, such as
quantum computing.
* Applicants will hold a PhD by the start date of the fellowship and must
not currently hold a permanent academic post or equivalent.
* Consideration will be given to applicants who have taken a non-standard
career path after their primary degree. Applications are welcomed from
candidates who wish to re-establish themselves after a career break or a
period of absence from active research.
* There are no nationality or residency restrictions.
* The projects must also include an aspect of public engagement to support

to wider audiences.
