Dear colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the SCL seminar of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, which will be held on Thursday, 31 October 2024 at 14:00 in the library reading room “Dr. Dragan Popović" of the Institute of Physics Belgrade. The talk entitled

Device models based on a controlled interplay of percolation, conductivity, and junction effects

will be given by Dr. Igor Stanković (SCL, Institute of Physics Belgrade). The abstract of the talk:

In this talk, we will present recent advances in device modeling, focusing on the behavior of two-dimensional stick and nanosheet networks. First, we will explore percolation in widthless stick systems with varying aspect ratios using extensive Monte Carlo simulations. A generalized scaling function will be introduced, revealing that the system aspect ratio plays a critical role in percolation behavior [1]. We will identify a characteristic aspect ratio where percolation probability becomes scale-invariant. Next, we will address conductivity in random stick systems, modeling the transition from percolation-dominated to dense-network conductivity [2]. This model incorporates stick density, junction-to-stick conductance ratios, and finite-size scaling, offering insights into the structural influences on conductivity. Finally, we will discuss the challenges of translating individual electrical properties of 2D semiconductor nanosheets into networks of overlapping sheets. We will visualize electrostatic potential profiles in nanosheet transistors, identifying the key impact of junctions on current flow. A numerical model is developed to estimate current paths, improving our understanding of device performance in these complex networks. This talk will highlight the interplay of percolation, conductivity, and junction effects in device modeling, offering a comprehensive framework for analyzing random networks in electronic systems.
