Title: Direct MBH formation through runaway collisions in (globally) 
unstable stellar systems

Abstract:
Supermassive black holes (SMBHs) may form, driven by a global 
instability of dense stellar systems due to runaway stellar collisions. 
This is motivated by the observation that Nuclear Stellar Clusters 
(NSCs) avoid the regime where stellar collisions are dynamically 
relevant over the whole system, while resolved detections of SMBHs are 
well into the collision-dominated regimes. The proposed scenario is 
tested using direct N-body simulations that follow such stellar 
collisions in simulated clusters, showing that dense enough clusters can 
be indeed globally unstable. The implications for JWST will be 
discussed.
