Dear colleagues,

This fall we start with the Balkan String Webinar, a monthly Zoom 
lecture by an eminent theorist in string theory and hep-th in general, 
aimed mainly at the researchers from Serbia and neighboring countries. 
We will have a mix of local (Balkan) and international lecturers. The 
lectures will happen mostly on the first Friday of the month at 2pm. The 
first lecture will be on November 7 2pm. Title, abstract and Zoom 
coordinates follow.

Pure 3D Gravity: a status report

Pure general relativity with a negative cosmological constant can in 
principle be a constant UV theory on its own. Following the AdS/CFT 
correspondence, the boundary dual should be some two dimensional CFT. 
Nevertheless, finding the boundary dual for this simple bulk theory 
remains an open problem. In this talk, I will review the status for the 
boundary dual of pure 3D gravity. I will discuss the interpretation of 
this theory in terms of an ensemble of 2d CFTs, review the successes of 
this approach and mention open questions.
