Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to invite you to a lecture by Prof. Dr. Dušan Palić
entitled:
Melding Carbon and Silicone-Based Methods: Using High-Accuracy
Long-Chain Sequencing and Bioinformatics to Support Aquatic Animal
Health Practice
Tuesday, September 1, 2026
11:00
Dr. Dragan Popović Lecture Hall, Institute of Physics Belgrade
Prof. Dr. Dušan Palić, D.V.M., MVSc, Ph.D., Dipl. ECAAH is Professor and
Chair of Fish Diseases and Fisheries Biology at the Faculty of
Veterinary Medicine, Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. His research
integrates aquatic animal health, molecular biology, immunology,
advanced sequencing and bioinformatics.
Lecture Abstract
The lecture will present how Oxford Nanopore long-read whole-genome and
transcriptome sequencing, combined with bioinformatics and big-data
approaches, can reveal relationships between aquatic animal hosts, their
microbiomes and pathogens.
Prof. Palić will discuss the translation of these technologies into
practice, including improved disease diagnostics, biosecurity and
epidemiological decision-making, modeling of antigenic epitopes for
tailored vaccine development, and monitoring of antimicrobial resistance
genes in animals and their environment.
The lecture will highlight how integrating molecular, computational and
veterinary approaches can provide new insights and support more precise
strategies for aquatic animal health.
I hope you will be able to join us.
Best regards,
Dr. Darija Obradović
