Dear colleagues,
You are cordially invited to the Laboratory for High-Energy Physics
seminar, which will be held on 6 March (Friday) at 14:00 CET. We will
have a seminar by Dr. Alberto Carnelli (French National Centre for
Scientific Research), in the library reading room "Dr Dragan Popović" of
the Institute of Physics Belgrade. Title and abstract follow.
Vector boson scattering at the LHC
The seminar provides an overview of diboson production measurements at
the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), with a focus on results from the ATLAS
experiment obtained during Run 2 data-taking and offering a look at
future developments. Diboson processes involve the production of two
electroweak gauge bosons (WW, WZ, ZZ) and are essential for testing the
predictions of the Standard Model, particularly the structure of
electroweak interactions and gauge boson couplings. In the talk we will
distinguish between inclusive diboson production and vector boson
scattering (VBS), the latter being a rarer process where two bosons are
produced alongside forward jets and is especially sensitive to new
physics effects. Measurements of cross sections, differential
distributions, and polarization states are discussed, along with
interpretations using Effective Field Theory (EFT) to constrain
anomalous triple and quartic gauge couplings. Recent results will be
presented on the observation of electroweak diboson production in
several channels (such as same-sign WW, WZ, and ZZ with jets) and
emerging studies of boson polarization, which probe the electroweak
symmetry breaking mechanism.
Kind regards,
Ema Maričić
