Dear friends,

On March 11 (Wednesday) at 12:00 CET we will have a seminar by Jesse van
Muiden, in the theory seminar room (Institute of Physics Belgrade, 2nd
floor). Jesse will be around for three days (Tue-Thu), so if you want to
have a chat drop me an email and I'll get you in touch. Title and
abstract follow.

M-theory from Membranes

Jesse van Muiden (Imperial College London and KU Leuven)

In this talk we examine whether the M-theory path integral admits an
expansion into membrane saddles, which we subsequently semi-classically
quantize. We highlight a subtle dependence on ensemble choices in this
observable, and relatedly comment on the possibility to instead expand
the path integral into five-brane saddles. We test these ideas in
holographic geometries against supersymmetric field theory observables,
and as a by-product provide new predictions for the appropriate boundary
theories.
