Dear colleagues,
the next GPF seminar will be given by Dusan Djordjevic on Friday,
13th of June at 11.15, in the small seminar room on the second
floor of IPB.
Title:
Melvin universe, lambda/rho Minkowski twist and rotating frames
Abstract:
One approach to analyzing noncommutative field theory is through the
so-called twist deformation. By considering matter fields propagating on a
spacetime with twist deformation, one obtains corrections to the classical
equations of motion. Interestingly, assuming that noncommutativity parameter
is small, the resulting equations can often be written as classical
commutative equations with an effective metric. In this work, we study the
cylindrically symmetric Melvin solution of the Einstein–Maxwell equations
with the \lambda/\rho-Minkowski-type twist and show that the resulting
effective spacetime metric corresponds to a change of the reference frame
to the one rotating with a constant angular velocity proportional to the
charge of the field and the strenght of noncommutativity, regardless of
whether the matter field is a scalar boson or a Dirac fermion. This result
is the basis for deriving a quantum gravity-induced version of the Sagnac
effect.
